Rape and Sexual Harassment
Campus NOW believes that rape is a hate crime against women that is the result of the power imbalance between men and women. The only way to stop it is by fighting in a public, political way to confront the sexist attitudes that cause men to rape. Unlike the UF and the University Police Department, we do not think that rape is a safety issue that can be stopped by safety, communication, or educational programs. Rape doesn’t happen because women don’t communicate clearly, or because men don’t know that rape is wrong. UF should spend less time and energy focusing on what women should do to “avoid” rape, and more time telling men to stop raping us! Get involved with Campus NOW’s Rape Action Committee, and help us put a stop to rape and sexual harassment. HAVE YOU BEEN RAPED OR SEXUALLY HARASSED AT UF? Fill out our confidential rape survey and let us know about it!
