February - Black History Month

Feb 21, 2003 Performing Arts Series Zora Neale Hurston Drama by Phyllis McEwen, actor, poet, and cultural worker, a onewoman presentation that showcases the career of Dr. Zora Neal Hurston in 1938, during one of the several high points in her life. Feb. 25 - NOW meeting at North Indian River County Library in Sebastian at 7 p.m. Nancy Stiefel will read excerpts from, "I Dream a World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America. There will also be a drawing for the choreopoem, "For Colored Girls who have Considered Suicide when the Rainbow is Enuf," by Ntozake Shange, a powerful poet.

March - Women's Herstory Month

Mar. 1 - Dream Weaver's Gala at the Clemente Center, Florida Tech, honoring Dr. Juanita Baker and the Sasha Collection.

March 2. Exhibition at Clemente Center at FIT showcasing women's textile art and books from the Sasha Collection. NOW will have a table set up and invites everyone to see this important collection. From 12-4pm Cathy Stanton has organized women to be at this exhibit with talent, music, poetry, singing and story telling for Women's History Month. Come see!

March 5. Legislature Opening. Visit or phone and express your views.

March 8. International Women's Day

March 11. Primary Election for filling Futch's seat. VOTE.

March 19 Brevard County Commission on the Status of Women Annual Award Breakfast at Florida Tech, 8:00am Clemente Center. Juanita Baker, Key Note Speaker

March 22 Luncheon at Cannon's,11:30 am. Margaret Barovich, History of the fight for equality and current drive for the ratification of the ERA in Florida.

March 22-25 Florida Women's Consortium in Tallahassee.

March 25 Election Day. VOTE.

April - National Activists Month

April 13 - Last day to make reservations for the Rally in Tally.

April 14 - Last day to include your name in the Tallahassee newspaper ad.

April 19 - Democratic Women's Club at Cannon's at 11:30 in Vero Beach. Paula Xanthopoulow, Pres., National Women's Political Caucus of Florida, will speak on "Getting Women in Public Office."

April - Now rally in Tallahassee in support of the ERA.

April 29 - NOW meeting in Vero Beach at the Audubon Society, 1931 14th Ave., at 7:00. Discussion group...come express your ideas.

May 31 - Now meeting in Melbourne at Coral Bay Restaurant, 707 S Harbor Blvd., at 11:30. Speaker TBA.

May 29 - Equal Pay Act - 1963

May 31 - NOW meeting at 11:30 in Melbourne at Coral Bay Restaurant, 707 S Harbor Blvd. Mary Anne O'Neill, Mayor of Indian Harbor Beach and Professor at Rollins College will speak on Women and Myth. June - NOW founded June 30, 1966

June 24 - NOW meeting at 7:00 at the Audubon Society at 1931 14th Ave. in Vero Beach. Lynn Wright will be there to tell us about and sign her new book, "It Happened in Florida."

July 11-13 - National Conference in Virginia.

July 19 - State Council Meeting

July 19 - Anniversary of 1st Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, N.Y. in 1848

July 22 - NOW meeting - 7:00 at the Audubon Society in Vero Beach. (1931 14th Ave) Gloria will be giving us a report from NOW National and we are having a program in celebration of French women with contributions from several of our members.

August 23 - NOW meeting - We will be celebrating Women's Equality Day in Fellsmere with a luncheon at the historic Marsh Landing.

September - Indian River NOW celebrates its 10th anniversary !

Sept 13 - The ACLU is sponsoring a "Deciphering the USA Patriot Act," at the Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Rd. in Stuart, FL from 2-4 pm. For more information call Gene Marshall (772) 871-9229.

Sept l7 - The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a discussion of the Patriot Act at the Picadilly Restaurant at Melbourne Square Mall at 11:30.

Sept. 20 - Florida Women's Consortium in Tampa. Call Gloria at (772)234-8896 if you would like to attend. Sign up by 9/16.

Sept 23 - NOW meeting at Citrus Blossom Cafe in Vero celebrating the 10th anniversary of Indian River NOW. The address is 1327 21st Street, Vero Beach at 6:00.

Oct 3 - Domestic Violence Summit at the St. Lucie Commission Chamber at 25th and Virginia in Ft. Pierce from 9-4. There will be a variety of speakers and there is no charge for admission. Call Gloria for details at (772)234-8896.

Oct. 11 - Now State Council meeting in Orlanda.

Oct. 11 - Brevard Cty Domestic Violence Task Force will be at Sunflower House in Merritt Square Mall from 10-2. NOW will be a participant.

Jan 22 - We are celebrating Rowe v Wade with a vigil at the Vero Beach Court House at Rt. 60/16th Avenue in Vero from 10-12 a.m. It is more important than ever to show support. Sign up for a half hour shift (or more) by calling Gloria at 772) 234-8897.

Jan 31 - NOW meeting at 11:30 at the Pelican Yacht Club in Ft. Pierce. Candace Dye from A Woman's World Medical Center in Ft. Pierce will be speaking about reproductive rights. Call Gloria at 772) 234-8897 to make a reservation.
