January 8th - 13th - The Vagina Monologues - Even Ensler's dynamic feminist play! In The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler has given voice to a chorus of lusty, outrageous, poignant, brave, highly original and thoroughly human stories. This celebrated and provocative play has become an international phenomenon and has spawned V-Day, a worldwide movement to combat violence against women. February 27th - Regular monthly meeting: SPECIAL TIME: 6:30 - 8pm at the Barefoot Bay/Micco Library. The February meeting will be a celebration of Black History Month! The meeting will feature a video presentation on the life of the amazing Sojourner Truth, one of the early American civil rights and women's rights activists. The meeting will be held at the Micco/Barefoot Bay Public Library from 6:30 to 8:00pm. Take US 1 (South from Brevard County and North from Indian River County) to the light at Barefoot Bay Blvd. Turn into Barefoot Bay (large white and blue signs) and head straight over the railroad tracks. Very soon, turn left and head past the fire station. The library is ahead on the left, with ample parking in front. Carpooling to this meeting is a very good idea. March 5th - 7pm, Northern Brevard NOW meeting in Room 1 at the Central Brevard Library in Cocoa. Judy Stevens-Singleton will speak on legal issues for women: "Know Your Legal Rights: Divorce and Estate Planning."
March 8th - International Women's Day - This year the theme will be "Afghanistan is Everywhere" for women
March 9th - Women's Suffrage Celebration in Cocoa Village; During Women's History Month, there will be a Suffragette March in Cocoa Village. This is a themed-march (get out and vote or register) which has been a success in the past and is quite fun. It will start at 11am at the Gazebo in Cocoa Village and end at Riverfront Park for speeches and songs. The area is east of US 1 and south of CR 520. For $7, one can have a boxed lunch picnic ordered for Mama D's Place. Come in period costume or white and purple, bring a noise-maker and an American flag to wave. May 28th - Regular monthly meeting. 7 to 9 pm at the UU Fellowship's meeting room at 365 43rd Avenue in Vero Beach. Carolyn Flannery will make a presentation on "labor issues" - she will discuss pay equity issues and ways employers work around labor laws, among other issues.
June 8th - PFLAG of Vero Beach's 3rd Annual Pride Celebration. Private Dinner Dance, 6:30 to 11:30pm. Tickets are $25 and must be reserved by June 1st. Call (772) 567-8070.
June 9th - through 11th - AIDS Watch in Washington, DC., an annual event coordinated and sponsored by the National Association of People With AIDS.
